Zone overview
North island has fewer resorts than on the south island but they're bigger.
Season is longer: from june to mid november whereas the latest resorts are closing early otober on the South Island.
Travel within the zone
We recommend you to have your own vehicle or a rental vehicle to go to the ski resorts.
There are buses but they are pretty expensive.
Matai Shuttles in Ohakune has a daily service between Ohakune and Turoa Ski Area. When Turoa is closed the service goes to Whakapapa Ski Area. The service departs Matai Lodge at 8:30am. For a schedule and route information call 06 385 9169.
Whakapapa Shuttles provides daily coach transport to Whakapapa Ski Area from National Park Village and Whakapapa Village. It runs from Chateau Tongariro, Skotel and Tongariro Holiday Park in Whakapapa Village every 20 minutes from 8am. From National Park bookings must be made on 07 892 3716 or 021 563 109.
