Zone overview
Less surfistic than West Guerrero, the Playa Azul zone offers a more attractive surf and a good genuine Mexican atmosphere. There is a cheap really nice surf camp at the north of Playa Azul.
The setting is great indeed and the wave can be long and fat.
In Playa Azul and to the south til Acapulco, there are mainly beach breaks.

La mejor manera de descubrir mexico, es viajar de coche, tranquilamente, tomando las sinuosas pistas y no las autopistas, parandose y disfrutar del paisaje. Para ir en Michoacan, hay que ir de Mexico hasta Guadalajara, y de Guadalajara hasta Playa Azul donde los hoteles estan bastante baratos y bonitos, casi todos con un punto vista sobre el mar.
Strategic locations (cities) in the zone
The main city on the coast is Lazaro Cardenas, well situated but not that Mexican !!!!!
Rather stop in Playa Azul : a typical village with cheap and good hotels down on the beach.
If the ocean is in a huff, your chick fed up of roasting on the sand or may be you are also interested in pre-colonial civilization, do spend then a few hours in this splendid, typically Mexican city which runs into its streets the North/South ethnic flow.To the North : Mazatlan, to the South : Mexico and down at the far end Puerto Escondido.
If your surf trip was a mess and you are feeling really down, with your mates getting aggressive and chaos brewing, go and get smashed on good tequila ! But beware the REAL one ! "Rendezvous" in Tequila city at a remote distillery right in the middle of agave fields, at the bottom of a volcano pleasant to climb up.
